Trying to be a bit more active with this blog so in addition to joining Can’t Wait for Wednesdays I also decided to join Book Beginnings on Fridays. Book Beginnings on Fridays is a weekly event hosted by Rose City Reader where readers post the first sentence or so of the book they are currently reading as well as any impressions that it created.
My book beginning this week is from an old favorite of mine. I’ve decided that I’m long over due in terms of a re-read for Sarah J Maas’ first published series “Throne of Glass”. I’ve started reading the books in chronological order and am close to finishing my re-read of “The Assassin’s Blade”, which is a collection of novellas and serves as a prequel to the series.
Seated in the council room of the Assassin’ Keep, Celaena Sardothien leaned back in her chair. “It’s past four in the morning”, she said adjusting the folds of her crimson silk dressing gown and crossing her bare legs beneath the wooden table. “This had better be important”.The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J Maas
When I was re-reading these words all I could think of was “this is just so typical Celaena”. When we are introduced to her in “Throne of Glass” she has suffered through several recent traumas, but her cockiness remains and is one of her defining characteristics. As is her fashion sense. No matter what life throws at Celaena she faces it head on and is almost always the best dressed person in the room.
