Happy Friday everyone! I’ve been enjoying the lovely weather here in NYC and am already looking forward to another action packed weekend. This has been a somewhat slow reading week for me though. I managed to finish “Torn” by Jennifer Armentrout, but had hoped that I would have another book finished this week as well. Since I don’t think I’ll have the time to dedicate to a new book this weekend, I decided to pick up an old favorite to unwind and that is what I will be sharing for this week’s Book Beginnings on Fridays.
Book Beginnings on Fridays is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Rose City Reader. Bloggers and readers alike post a sentence or so from the book they are currently enjoying as well as any thoughts that sentence inspired.
For this week I will be sharing the beginning of “Shattered Mirror” by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes.
Sarah Vida shivered. The aura of vampires seeping from the house in front of her was nearly overwhelming
Amelia Atwater-Rhodes was one of the first authors, whose work got me interested in the supernatural genre. I’ve read “Shattered Mirror” more times than I can remember at this point and I really enjoy how Amelia Atwater-Rhodes creates characters that are often neither good nor evil, but rather somewhere in between.
In the first sentence of “Shattered Mirror” we get a pretty firm sense of Sarah’s attitude towards vampires and that attitude will slowly evolve over the course of the story. I also enjoy how these first few sentences create a sort of anticipation where, as the reader, you can’t help, but wonder what happens next.
Let me know what you think of this sentence and if you have come across Amelia Atwater- Rhodes books before. How has your week been going? What are you reading this week?
