Can’t Wait Wednesday #5- The Helm of Midnight

Happy Wednesday everyone! I’m so excited to be sharing this recent release with you for this week’s Can’t Wait Wednesday after watching a Q&A with the author and one of my favorite authors, Jenn Lyons acting as moderator. Can’t Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings. Each week bloggers will post about upcoming books that we are excited to be reading soon.

For this week I will be talking about Marina Lostetter’s “Helm of Midnight”.

Plot Summary:

In a daring and deadly heist, thieves have made away with an artifact of terrible power–the death mask of Louis Charbon. Made by a master craftsman, it is imbued with the spirit of a monster from history, a serial murderer who terrorized the city with a series of gruesome murders.

Now Charbon is loose once more, killing from beyond the grave. But these murders are different from before, not simply random but the work of a deliberate mind probing for answers to a sinister question.

It is up to Krona Hirvath and her fellow Regulators to enter the mind of madness to stop this insatiable killer while facing the terrible truths left in his wake (Goodreads, 2021).

This is a recent release that I stumbled on while browsing Barnes and Noble on my last visit. The unusual cover caught my eye and the summary intrigued me. I’m already wondering why somebody would make a death mask of a serial killer. I don’t read that many mystery books and this may prove too creepy for me (I’m a lightweight when it comes to thrillers/horror stories), but I will definitely give it a try. I also enjoyed hearing the author discuss her world building process during a recent Q&A so that is definitely another plus in my book since I tend to gravitate towards series that feature unique and rich worlds.

What genre of books do you tend to gravitate towards? Is this a book that would appeal to you?

  1. This sounds really good. The cover is intriguing. My usual genre is mystery, suspense, thrillers… so this might be perfect for me.

Thank you for commenting on my blog. Your comment did go through but I have it set to moderation because I was getting alot of spammers, but I approved it and it’s up now. Have a great week!

  2. This does sound creepy! I’d be willing to give it a try at some point. I gravitate towards different types of books depending on my mood or what’s going on in my life at any given moment, so it’s hard for me to name just one or two that appeal the most to me. Lately I suppose that would be cozy mysteries, urban fantasy, historical mysteries, YA fantasy, historical fiction, and rom-coms.

I hope you are having a great week!
